Holistic interior fit-out from a single source – delivered by Display International
As general contractor and design partner, Display International won the pitch for the redesign of a central area on the ground floor of Building 411 at Grünenthal’s Aachen site – and subsequently delivered the project in its entirety. Around 160 m² were transformed into a space that reflects the modern working world: flexible, welcoming and identity-defining.
The aim was to create an attractive place for employees to work, relax and meet – a place that allows for retreat while at the same time offering space for co-working, informal encounters and creative breaks. In this way, Grünenthal consistently follows the principles of modern New Work concepts, in which wellbeing, exchange and adaptive working environments are at the centre.
A space as a “showcase of corporate culture”
The new area was designed to have an impact both internally and externally:
Open, flexible spatial zones create a wide range of ways to stay and spend time.
Visual highlights and a clear lighting concept create an inviting atmosphere – during the day and in the evening, when the illuminated logos also attract passers-by and visitors.
At the heart of the space is a barista bar, which has become the social centre of the area and makes the company’s identity tangible with every coffee.
Single-source delivery – planning, design & realisation
As general contractor, DI took on all services – from the concept phase to final handover:
- Interior design & detailed planning by our design studio DI X Concepts
- Flooring works
- Partial façade design
- Drywall construction with integrated seating niches
- Carpentry works (incl. counter system)
- Lighting planning & lighting
- Furniture and equipment
The design phase ran from October 2024 to February 2025, and the implementation phase from May to August 2025 – a project period of just four months of construction time, during which precision, coordination and quality were top priorities.
Challenges & special features
The greatest task was to create a space that:
- allows for both retreat and collaboration,
- sets a statement for New Work through its design,
- functions as a visual eye-catcher to the outside,
- and at the same time conveys appreciation to employees.
The result is an open, warm and emotional space concept that makes the corporate culture visible and gives employees something back that is becoming increasingly important in modern working life: a place to arrive, exchange and recharge.
